The story behind WillaBerry's...
As a young child, I developed a love for animals. From the age of 8 on I had an assortment of small animals and birds. My mother felt one type of animal at a time was enough. When I learned about the one type of animal I would switch out that type for another. I successfully raised a few types of animals including: Guinea pigs, Hamsters, Zebra finches, & Cockatiels.
Around 12, I started asking my parents if I could have a dog. At the time, I didn't know there were Toy Aussies. My original choice would have been an Standard Australian Shepherd. Unfortunately, We didn't have the room inside our smaller home at the time for a larger dog. Eager to have a dog of my own I purchased a Toy breed that was better suited for our home.
At 16, while visiting a Bird Show, there was a gentleman with 2 small Aussies. They were Absolutely gorgeous! They were Toy Aussie sisters. One was a Blue Merle and the other a Red Merle. I instantly fell in love. I knew one day I would have an Aussie of my own.
Once I purchased a home of my own I decided to get my first dog. I purchased a Toy poodle. 10 months later my Toy Poodle was stolen. In my search to replace her I acquired another Toy poodle. After a month I realized she wasn't like my Ona so I purchased another. This continued on until I decided that I'd start raising them.
After a few years of raising Poodles I decided to expand into a few other breeds. An opportunity arose to purchase 5 Mini Aussies and one Toy. The Mini Aussie male produced Mini, Toy, and Tiny Toy offspring. The Toys quickly became a favorite and I decided to change the focus of my focus towards raising Toy Aussies.
In search of suppliments for the Mothers and puppies I discovered that goats milk was very beneficial. With the high cost of goats milk, I decided to purchase two Nubian does of my own. They had such wonderful dispositions that I decided to start raising Nubians. The milk has been and continue to be an excellent suppliment.
A few years into raising Aussies I was fortunate enough to meet my good friend Charlotte withPeace Creek Mini Aussies. Peace Creek Mini Aussies raises primarily high quality Mini Aussies with the occasional Toy & Standard Aussie. Charlotte has been gracious enough to allow me to use one of her Toy and Mini Australian shepherd males for service. A couple years into raising Aussies all of our girls and boys were Toy Aussies. We've continued to focus our breeding program around raising High Quality, Toy Aussies with good bone that can sustain durable, activity and be excellent companions.
The name WillaBerry was inspired by a few members of my family. My Mother's Mother was dear to my heart and lost her battle with cancer when I was 12. In her memory, I chose her middle name Willa. A name originally thought to be spelled Barry was my Great Grandfathers first name, but it was actually spelled Berry. The combination of the two were put together to form WillaBerry which would pluralize to WillaBerry's.
Through a life long admiration for the miracle of life, raising Toy Aussies and Nubian Dairy goats has been a pure joy. We are located in Davenport, Central Florida 12 miles SW of Disney.
